Puhipau, co-founder of Na Maka o ka ‘Aina, was recently honored (posthumously) at La Ho’iho’i Ea 2019 in Honolulu as a Kupuna Aloha ‘Aina, along with Keli’i “Skippy” Ioane. In a video (“Puhipau – Blown Away”) produced by Joan Lander for the event, Puhipau is quoted: “We are sovereign. And we gave nobody, nobody permission to rule over us. So the process now is to educate, build the consciousness strong enough that we will overwhelm them. How is yet to be seen, but it will happen.”
